My name is Lorena Herrera Rashid, I am a conceptual artist and I work independently. My
practice consists of juxtaposing diverse objects and claims that acquire a new relational
meaning as sculptural and social works. I use pre-existing objects and conflicts to create
pieces and works in various materials and supports. To learn more about my life and work;
go here.
After more than a decade abroad, I returned to Mexico with my family to build our dream
home-workshop, just an hour from CDMX, my hometown.
Itzamatitlán, the town where I live and which we used to call It'z-a-magic-land, is a small
paradise, a land of sun and water where everything grows. But far from escaping reality, it
seems that I have to live it on a scale: the pollution, the lack of community, the insecurity,
the exploitation and the abandonment in this place is a reflection not only of what is
experienced in Mexico but in the world.
have been reflecting on this issue for years, and in an organic way I have been actively
getting involved in my immediate environment to try to recover its magic. This process of
undoing the context of my practice and adapting it to the needs of my local environment,
has led me to develop ITZAMOR as a work that generates connections. A space in continuous
transformation, where to host common dreams and utopias, which far from being real, are
possible.
